Primary Care

University of Mississippi Medical Center offers comprehensive and patient-focused general care, often referred to as primary care, to Mississippi families. UMMC general medicine physicians and staff frequently are the first line in healthcare, offering the latest in medical innovations and treatment at the state’s only academic medical center.

Primary care specialties include family medicine, general internal medicine, geriatrics (gerontology), general pediatrics, combined internal medicine/pediatrics and general obstetrics and gynecology, fulfilling the general medical needs of specific patient populations. Many of our physicians also have expertise in subspecialty areas in addition to their primary care knowledge.

Specifically, the obstetrics and gynecology service helps manage women’s healthcare issues, while family, internal, pediatrics and combined internal medicine/pediatrics see a wide range of chronic and acute diseases, including cardiometabolic disorders, hypertension and diabetes. Geriatrics care is provided for patients 65 and older.

All of UMMC’s primary care physicians focus on health maintenance and disease prevention as key components in their patient care.
